Facebook has just released its official statistics, selected facts as below:
More than 140 million active users
The fastest growing demographic is 25 years old and older
Average user has 100 friends on the site
More than 70% of Facebook users are outside the US
How many out of the 140 million users are Malaysians, and what about the demographics? AllFacebook does provide an useful estimation tool for us to delve into the figures.
As you can see from the chart above, Facebook does enjoy a steady growth in Malaysia. We have around 800,000 active users as of December 16, in which 45% of them are male, 51% female and 4% unstated.
In terms of age groups, young adults are the main contributors as expected. Perhaps, teenagers' (below 18) market share might be one of the main reasons why Facebook is still behind Friendster in Malaysia.
Regional wise, Malaysia has the most Facebook users in Southeast Asia. The chart above showing a spike of active users in Indonesia since the end of November, thanks to its translation crowdsourcing. This enables the 4th largest population in the world overtaking Singapore at second place and maybe Malaysia in the near future.
